Jeanell Murphree is a familiar name because she's one of our machine quilters, but she's also a quiltmaker herself. I wanted to put New Zealand Blue up because it's so beautiful, but especially because it's an example of the Blink tactic,the use of strong contrasts for sometimes optical effects. Blink is mostly a value tactic, very dark shade against very light shade; but it can also be a color tactic, as in these blocks:

Scot’s beautiful Ursa Incognita didn’t win the Hand Quilting prize in the Blogger’s Festival (hate the placement of that apostrophe), but at least the one that did win was pretty nifty:
