I came across a lovely breakfast tray by Maria Dahlgren with many half square triangles and at once could see it translated into a quilt. With no pattern to use I came up with my own and it worked wonderfully. I started with two 8 1/2" squares, of each fabric for the halfsquare triangles. Match up each two fabrics you want to use for the halfsquares and sew a 1/4" seam around all four sides - enclosing the squares, press nicely and rotary cut diagonally from corner to corner twice, ending up with 4 squares. Open each square and press, being careful because the edges are on the bias. Use a 5 1/2" square ruler to easily trim each square. Cut as many solid squares as you like with the 5 1/2" ruler, they will not be on the bias. Happy Quilting!
